Dr. David Buchin is the Director of Bariatric Surgery at Huntington Hospital. He has more than ten years of General Surgery, Minimal Invasive Surgery and Bariatric Surgery experience. Dr Buchin has been performing obesity surgery since 2005 and is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons. Dr Buchin is a Board Certified General Surgeon, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. After his surgical residency from North Shore LIJ Health System he completed a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Bariatric Surgery at the Minimally Invasive Institute of New York. Dr Buchin was the first surgeon on Long Island to perform the Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy. He was also the first surgeon in the North Shore LIJ health system to perform the Stomaphyx procedure. |

Sophia Mcleod, RPA-C MSPAS Physician Assistant and Bariatric Coordinator |
|
Sophia is an Assistant Surgeon to Dr. Buchin and has over 6 years of experience with Gastric Bypass, Gastric Band and Sleeve Gastrectomy patients. She is very experienced with Adjustable Gastric Band adjustments and weight management. She works closely with patients both pre-operatively and post-operatively and has embraced the role of patient educator. |

Helene Feinberg— Administrative Manager |
|
Helene has over 9 years of experience as a healthcare administrator. She has worked as a medical consultant, establishing and operating physician practices as well as developing budgets, and formulating and implementing policies, objectives, and procedures for various departments. As the Administrative Manager for the Bariatric department, Helene manages the daily operations of Dr Buchin’s practice, ensuring proper functioning of procedures. Her combined understanding of clinical issues with business management allows her to constantly improve services, ensuring the proper care of patients. |

Karla Horrmann—Bariatric Administrative Assistant |

Karla has over 7 years of customer service experience in addition to her expertise as a medical administrative assistant. As the medical secretary for Bariatric Surgery, she is responsible for appointments, scheduling cases and obtaining insurance approvals. Her specialized knowledge of medical terminology and insurance procedures ensures proper care of all patients. Karla is a caring and compassionate person who responds to all of our patients needs. |

Lisa Becker BSN, RN, CNOR Nurse Educator and Bariatric Coordinator at Huntington Hospital. |

Lisa has over 26 years of experience in the operating room and has been dedicated to Bariatric and Peri-Operative education for the last 8 years. Her role provides professional leadership to the clinical staff as well as specialized care to the Bariatric patient population. Lisa’s primary goal is to ensure all patients needs are met, making herself available to the patients and their family throughout their stay at Huntington Hospital. She meets with each patient pre-operatively, helping them understand what to expect before and after surgery and continues to care for the patient post-operatively, working closely with the Bariatric Team. |
